MY STORY & PHILOSOPHY
I was born in Zimbabwe and grew up in South Africa, where I qualified as a goldsmith. Moving to London in 1990, I worked for eight years as a precious-metal jeweller for the artist-designer Wendy Ramshaw. During this time I also designed and produced several jewellery ranges and made costume jewellery for fashion shows (Alexander McQueen, Givenchy).
Whilst looking into further studies in design I decided to pursue a lifelong dream of working with endangered animals, and took a degree in Zoology at King’s Collage, London. In my third year I wrote my dissertation on the behavior of London Zoo’s gorilla group, and volunteered and later worked on their primate section, where I fell in love with the gorillas. In 2004 I moved to Jersey, to work on the gorilla section at Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust.
After seven years at Durrell I took the decision to return to a full-time career in design and making, initially working in bronze and now in ceramics. I divide my time between making ceramics and commissioned work, creating sculpture and bespoke functional pieces, all inspired and informed by my fascination with the natural world.
